Rishabh Seth alias Badshah was hit by bullets in the chest and abdomen, killing him on the spot, Jalandhar police commissioner Swapan Sharma said.

A 27-year-old man was shot dead and his friend suffered bullet injuries during a fight between two groups on Khingra Road in Jalandhar late on Saturday night. Police said both groups had an old feud over the gambling issue.

The deceased was identified as Rishabh Seth alias Badshah, a resident of Ali Mohalla, while the injured person was identified as Ishu Kumar.

Jalandhar police commissioner Swapan Sharma said Rishabh received bullets in his chest and abdomen, killing him on the spot. “Ishu suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh and is being treated in hospital,” he said.

Sharma informed that the main accused, identified as Sahil Kapoor alias Mannu, was arrested a few hours after the incident.

“During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that groups led by Rishabh and Mannu were involved in illegal gambling business. The argument the two had over a gambling issue on November 1 was resolved at that time. Later on Saturday night, both Rishabh and Mannu again got into a heated argument after which Mannu along with his accomplices attacked Rishabh and his friend and sprayed bullets at them,” said Sharma.

The police commissioner also added that a country-made pistol and two empty cartridges were seized from Sahil Kapoor’s possession. “Five criminal cases are currently pending against him.”

The other four men named in the case are Manav, Nannu Kapoor and Gaggi, the police commissioner said. A lawsuit was filed against them under the headings of murder, attempted murder, rebellion, criminal intimidation and weapons action.

Meanwhile, Rishabh’s family members and friends blocked Rama Mandi Road, demanding the arrest of the accused after his death. After the police’s assurance that the main suspect would be caught, the barricade was removed.
