Londoners protest Israel’s genocide in Gaza, call for arms sales to be suspended

LONDON

Pro-Palestinian activists held a rally in central London on Thursday against Israel’s genocide in the Gaza Strip, calling for an immediate ceasefire and an end to arms shipments to Israel.

A group carrying Palestinian flags marched towards Piccadilly Circus against Israel’s attacks on Gaza, which have killed more than 45 thousand people since October 7, 2023.

They carried various pro-Palestinian banners; some of them read “Jesus was Palestinian” and “UK weapons were used in the Gaza genocide.”

Chanting slogans such as “immediate ceasefire” and “freedom for Palestine”, the group demanded that arms shipments to Israel be stopped.

Protesters also called for a boycott of Israeli-linked companies, saying: “When you look at the sales, there is a genocide being committed by Israel… Boycott companies that are financing genocide.”

On 2 September, the British government announced that it had suspended 30 of 350 arms export licenses to Israel following a review and a clear risk that some UK arms exports to Israel could be used to carry out or facilitate serious arms export violations. He warned that it was. international humanitarian law.

The 30 licenses cover components for military aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and items that facilitate ground targeting, excluding UK components for the F-35 fighter jet programme.

Israel has waged a genocidal war in the Gaza Strip that has killed approximately 45,400 people, mostly women and children, since an attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Last month, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu and former defense chief Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
