Youth Arrested for Raping Deaf and Dumb Woman in Kultali, South 24 Parganas

Kolkata: A youth has been arrested for allegedly raping a deaf and mute woman in Kultali in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district.

Even though the main accused in the case was arrested, local people were agitating, alleging that a local Trinamool Congress panchayat chief Prahlad Nashkar was pressuring the victim’s family members to settle the matter for Rs 2,00,000.

The victim’s family members filed a complaint Wednesday evening. Thereupon, the police launched an investigation and the young suspect was arrested based on circumstantial evidence.

He will be produced in a district court in South 24 Parganas only on Thursday and the prosecutor will seek his remand in police custody, a district police official said.
