“It intensifies my anger”; Wife of homeowner killed by Las Vegas police speaks out

The wife of the homeowner who was shot and killed by a Las Vegas police officer continues to demand justice after the incident The department has released seven body camera videos online.

Rachael Gore said that she was not able to watch the footage released on December 4, but was informed about its contents showing the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police intervention in her home. 43-year-old Brandon Durham.

The homeowner was shot and killed by officer Alexander Bookman26 around 12:40 a.m. on November 12, while Durham struggled with the intruder over the knife. Durham called 9-1-1 to report the break-in.

The new videos mostly capture officers moving toward the home in the 6900 block of Wine River Drive, accompanied by radio traffic. Officer Bookman was heard over the radio telling officers that he had responded to the home the night before and made a suspicious statement regarding that call: “The attacker in yesterday’s incident was a transgender. The attacker in yesterday’s situation was a transgender, BMA (black, male, adult) tall, with a black wig.” .”

“This makes me even more angry,” Gore said. “It increases my anger even more. It increases my confusion even more.”

Part of the confusion involves why three videos stopped immediately after the gunshot while inside the house.

“We’re actually trying to bring this into play, what was said after the shooting?” Cannon Lambert, the Durham family’s attorney, said: “What were the officers talking about? Did Officer Bookman say anything derogatory or incriminating that they didn’t want us to know and wouldn’t release?”

News 3 reached out to Metro Police about the body camera footage. A department spokesperson said in an email response that the footage provided does not conflict with the investigation currently being conducted by the Force Investigation Team (FIT), adding, “Due to the ongoing FIT investigation, we are not releasing all body camera footage.”

The internal investigation could take months before Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson reviews the case and decides whether to pursue criminal charges.

“Officer Bookman, he not only killed someone, he caused serious irreparable damage to our lives,” Gore said.

Gore said he has returned to teaching since the shooting but continues to mourn Durham’s death.

“Every day is different,” Gore said. “There are no good days, but there are bad days and there are worse days. Today has to be one of the worst.”

Metro Police arrested 31-year-old Alejandra Boudreaux, who is accused of breaking into the home and initiating the fatal police response.

His charges include trespassing, disregard for the safety of a person or property, assault on a child and endangerment because Durham’s 15-year-old daughter was in the home. Boudreaux faces an additional indecency charge after exposing himself to the media in court during a Nov. 25 hearing. He is due back in court on December 16 for his first four charges.

News 3 obtained documents showing Bookman and two other officers responded to Durham’s home about 24 hours before the Nov. 10 shooting. Durham wasn’t home and called 911 around 11:30 p.m. to report that his “old friend” wasn’t leaving. house. In the documents, police appeared to list the name as “Marie,” which was Boudreaux’s middle name, according to records.

Officer Bookman has been placed on routine paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Durham and Lambert’s family, along with civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, continue to demand accountability in the case and want Officer Bookman arrested.
