Xiaomi is preparing for a major release with the Xiaomi 15 series, which brings significant improvements in camera performance, battery power and software. Ahead of the October 29 launch, Xiaomi offered a preview of its flagship models Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro by posting camera samples on popular Chinese microblogging platform Weibo to show off upgraded photography capabilities.

The 50MP main and telephoto cameras of the Xiaomi 15 Pro represent a leap forward over its predecessor, the Xiaomi 14 Pro, especially in telephoto zoom. Now equipped with 5x optical zoom, the new telephoto setup surpasses the 3.2x zoom of the Xiaomi 14 Pro, providing clearer, more detailed footage at longer distances. Both the prime and telephoto lenses come with wide apertures of f/1.4 and f/2.5 respectively, promising excellent performance in a variety of lighting conditions.

In addition to hardware improvements, Xiaomi has integrated the new AI-powered AISP 2.0 image processing technology into the series. The algorithm reduces processing time by a significant 82 percent while improving clarity and overall image quality. Xiaomi highlighted this feature by sharing photos taken with the 3.2x telephoto lens on the standard Xiaomi 15, with a single shot showing a detailed crop at 5x zoom. This mix of advanced hardware and smart software signals Xiaomi’s intention to compete in high-end mobile photography.

Three models will be exhibited at Xiaomi’s event on October 29: Xiaomi 15, 15 Pro and 15 Ultra. Although Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro will be fully introduced, the highly anticipated Xiaomi 15 Ultra is planned to be introduced with a delay in early 2025.
