23 people booked as Panchayat poll clashes continue in Mohali

In one of the cases, victim Jai Kishan, 36, from Kurari village, told police that while he was at his home, he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by the group that had previously threatened him.

Even though 18 days have passed since the Panchayat elections, conflicts between candidates still continue. On Saturday, Mohali police detained as many as 23 people involved in the clashes.

Victim Jai Kishan, 36, from Kurari village, told police that he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons while at his home by the group that had previously threatened him. “They also attacked my wife, who came to save me,” Kishan said. The accused were booked under various sections of BNS, including attempt to murder.

In the second case, an investigation was opened against two people for assaulting the husband of a newly elected council member in Durali village. Victim Satnam Singh, 41, told police that on Friday, the accused chased her and allegedly assaulted her after abusing her. “When his brother wanted to save him, they attacked him too,” he said. The accused were booked in various sections of BNS.

In the third case, Sadar Kharar police detained six people. The victim, Balwinder Singh, told the police that when he and his brother Bhupinder Singh went outside their home to see the victory parade of the winning candidate, the accused attacked them with sharp-edged weapons. It was claimed that the defendants also attacked their uncle who came to save them. The victims later lodged a police complaint after being admitted to Kharar civil hospital.

In the fourth case, Sadar Kharar police booked three men and an unidentified woman for assaulting two men in Chando Gobindgarh village on Saturday. Victim Bhagwant Singh, 27, said the accused attacked him and his friend Harjot Singh after his father won the sarpanch election. The victims were admitted to Kharar civil hospital for treatment.
